Making it feel real

The difference between a product and a prototype is intentionality. Here's the two-hour setup that gets you there.

Users can't always articulate why something feels unfinished — but they feel it immediately, and it affects conversion, activation, and retention before most of them can name what's wrong. Once your name is chosen, your visuals are fixed, and your voice is defined, the last step is pulling it all together so the whole thing reads as deliberate.

The 2-hour full setup

If you want to do everything from scratch in one sitting:

30 minutes: Visual foundation

  • 1 primary font for headings and body (Manrope, Geist, or Inter)
  • 1 mono font for labels and UI elements (Geist Mono or JetBrains Mono)
  • 2 brand colours: one primary, one neutral
  • Border radius set to 12px everywhere
  • Gradients and drop shadows removed

30 minutes: Logo

Set your app name in a typeface you chose deliberately. Or build a simple icon in Figma. Either is fine — just not the default.

30 minutes: Core copy

  • Tagline: one sentence, clear not clever
  • 3 core messages for homepage, onboarding, and first email
  • Voice rule: one sentence describing how your product talks

30 minutes: Apply it

  • Landing page headline and subhead
  • Welcome email
  • Onboarding empty states
  • Error messages
  • Button labels

If those four things are consistent and deliberate, your visual identity is done. Not perfect. Done.
